The first IoT Healthcare device designed to protect the lives of children with allergies.
Understand
Food Allergies Are On The Rise
With 1/20 children experiencing reactions at school, I set out to address the challenges of severe allergies, identifying gaps in current management strategies through research and collaboration with pediatric allergists.
Define
Need For A Comprehensive Allergy Management Solution
Need For A Comprehensive Allergy Management Solution
To understand the challenges parents and children face, I conducted surveys, diary studies, and interviews. Key issues emerged: a lack of awareness about handling allergic reactions, difficulty identifying them, and incorrect use of emergency medication.
Create
How can I minimize the risk of allergic reactions among children?
How can I minimize the risk of allergic reactions among children?
The design process began with the development of 15 concepts, from which three were selected for exploration. The standout concept was a smartwatch that detects anaphylaxis and delivers clear treatment instructions using advanced sensors.
Protoype
Developing a Smart Device and Educational App for Children with Allergies
I sketched wireframes and created paper mockups for the emergency response. A/B testing refined features, and rapid prototyping improved the device. The final solution includes an intuitive UI with haptic and audio alerts, plus an educational app for caregivers.

Test
Build, Test, Iterate
I focused on adding personality to the system’s design, using colors and visuals that were approachable and engaging, avoiding a sterile, medical look to appeal to children. Extensive testing and refinement ensured the colors and interface were child-friendly. I collaborated with an AI conversational architect to simplify and refine the flow of instructions, making them foolproof. During testing, a 10-year-old boy who had never seen an EpiPen successfully followed the step-by-step guide to administer a trainer EpiPen, confirming the design's effectiveness.
